چکیده

All data in the B band for quasar 3C 345 have been compiled into a light curve from twenty one publications, dating back to 1896; 1642 values are available. The light curve shows that 3C 345 is very active and exhibits very complicated nonsinusoidal variations. Using this data we have found a period of 10.1±0.8 years (or 21.8±1.5 years) for the outbursts in 3C 345. This value is in good agreement with the period of 11.4 year between outbursts found previously by Webb et al. (1988). Based on this period we can predict that the next outburst should be at its maximum around January 2002.

3 C 345 : the historical light curve ( 1967 - 1990 ) from the digitized plates of the Asiago Observatory

In the frame of a large project to digitize the plate archives of the Italian and Vatican Astronomical Observatories, we have already performed the digitization of all available plates of the field of the quasar 3C345. The plates, approximately 100, were taken with the three telescopes of the Asiago Observatory (122 cm, 182 cm, 67/90 cm Schmidt Telescope) in the period from 1967 to 1990. We pre...

Quasi - Periodic Changes in the Parsec - Scale Jet of 3 C 345

We have observed the QSO 3C 345 with VSOP at 1.6 GHz and 5 GHz and with the VLBA at 22 GHz and 43 GHz, with 24 epochs in total, from 1997.40 to 1999.69. This study, combined with previous observations, reveals periodic changes in the parsec-scale jet. This quasi-periodicity can be found in the initial position angles, the trajectories and the flux density evolution of the jet components, with a...

Variability inthe

We present the results of the first systematic study of correlated variability in the X-ray emission and the parsec-scale radio structure of the ‘superluminal’ quasar 3C 345. This quasar is one of a class of core-dominated flat-spectrum radio sources which are believed to emit X-rays via the synchrotrons self-Compton process. By studying its variability in X-rays, we can test this hypothesis fo...

A supermassive binary black hole in the quasar 3 C 345

Radio loud active galactic nuclei present a remarkable variety of signs indicating the presence of periodical processes possibly originating in binary systems of supermassive black holes, in which orbital motion and precession are ultimately responsible for the observed broad-band emission variations, as well as for the morphological and kinematic properties of the radio emission on parsec scal...

The quasar 3 C 345 at the highest resolution with mm - and space - VLBI

The quasar 3C 345 is one of the best examples of extra-galactic jet with superluminal components moving on helical paths. To get better constraints on the jet physics, we have imaged the source at the highest possible resolution, using mm-VLBI and space-VLBI observations. We observed 3C 345 at 5 different epochs so far (1 epoch with 3-mm ground VLBI, and 4 epochs with space VLBI at 6 cm and 18 ...
